I have been an educator in urban public education for over 15 years. I began my career in 1994 in New York City after earning a teaching credential and MA in English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. I taught in public schools in Harlem and Brooklyn before joining the staff of Landmark High School, a member of the national reform movement known as the Coalition of Essential Schools. Back in my home state of California in 2001 I worked as an Instructional Reform Facilitator at John O’Connell High School of Technology in the San Francisco’s Mission district where I continued my focus on student centered learning and school wide literacy and reform efforts in support of struggling adolescents. I then went on to become the Director of the California Reading and Literature Project at San Francisco State University where I presented literacy and ELD models to teachers and leaders across the state. I supported Oakland Unified School District as a Literacy Specialist where I had the opportunity to write curriculum, coach teachers, and develop and manage response to intervention (RTI) programs. I also worked for West Contra Costa Unified as a Common Core Coach. I was honored to be a Program Director for Alameda County Office of Education where I supported 18 districts with literacy initiatives and systems thinking practices.Currently I am consulting full time and have amazing clients, doing great work for kids. When I am not advocating for children, their families and their teachers, I am a mom of twins (one on the autism spectrum) and I enjoy gardening, hiking and swimming in the beautiful Bay Area of California where I call home.
I enjoyed this blog. You sound like a very qualified person
